About Our Chapter
Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is the official
Electrical and Computer Engineering honor society.
We plan and host events to encourage student-faculty contact and foster a community of
students with an interest in technology.
Our chapter, Beta Tau, has been actively involving
Northwestern University students
since its inception in 1948.
Eta Kappa Nu was founded in 1904 at the University of Illinois and now has chapters in most of the
engineering schools in the United States. More information about our history can be found on
the National HQ Website.
Events
Throughout the year, we sponsor a variety of events,
both social and academic, both for our members and for the student body at large.
Past social events have included dinners with professors and social movie gatherings.
Our chapter has also planned academic events: we originally created
Northwestern's annual Design Competition
(which has now spun off into its own organization). We also help plan the annual IEEE Forum.
Membership
Every year, we select the top juniors and seniors in Electrical and Computer Engineering
and invite them to join our chapter.
The minimum requirements for selection require candidates to be in top fourth of their
junior class or the top third of their senior class. Potential members are contacted several
weeks before initiation.
