McCormick Student Group Server Info

April 4, 2005 Update


Getting accounts:

  1. Have a representative from your group send mail to webmaster@mccormick.northwestern.edu.
    This email should contain:

    • Name of your group
    • What you would like the access point for your website to be (ie, for ACM it would be http://msgroups.mccormick.northwestern.edu/acm/)
    • A phone number with an answering machine at which an initial password for the account can be left
    • The name and email address of the person who should be the contact point for your group, should any problems arise

  2. Keep this information up-to-date by informing the Webmaster. Otherwise we will have trouble contacting you regarding your account.
  3. You will have a directory off of your home directory with the name of your group, this is where you should put all of your Web pages. It will correspond to the root of your requested web directory. (http://msgroups.mccormick.northwestern.edu/yourgroup)
  4. You must access the server using FTP. Access is restricted to connections from the Northwestern network; if you are logging in using another Internet service provider, you will need to establish a Virtual Private Network session. Use your group assigned username and password to login, not your NU netid and password!
  5. Mail and listserv service will no longer be provided on this server, but your group can request a McCormick mail account (yourgroup@mccormick.northwestern.edu) by contacting the Webmaster.
