The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a nationally recognized professional, educational, non-profit, and service organization dedicated to promoting interest in and encouraging women to pursue the fields of science and engineering.

Each quarter, our section of SWE holds 1 major event, 1-2 general meetings, a few small social events, and outreach events. Just a few of these events are outlined below.

Major Events

Our major events consist of the following (click on title for more information):

  • Industry Day
  • Technical career fair
  • Career Day For Girls
  • Outreach event for middle and high school girls
  • Spring Banquet
  • A banquet honoring current SWE Members
  • General Meetings

Our general meetings are a time when our SWE members can gather for updates on SWE events, participate in some sort of programming, grab some free food, buy SWE t-shirts, and just hang out.

    Social Events

For social events, we often try to organize lunches at the North Campus Einstein's Bagels. Sometimes we also have movie outings and are planning to hold more social events this upcoming fall when we return to school.

    Outreach Events

We participate in various outreach events throughout the year. One of these events was helping Girl Scouts earn their engineering, science, and math badges.

We are also currently working on developing a summer program. NU SWE's first annual Summer Program for Girls will tentatively be June 16-18, 2008. The program will host 30 8th and 9th graders and will be non-residential. We'll be looking for undergrad counselors to assist the participants.
